    Description

Minted for six years to celebrate the ideals and teachings of Booker T. Washington, who was born in slavery in 1856, and went on to found what is now Tuskegee University. 1946-P (no mark but Philadelphia mint) was the first year, and among the more common versions among the 18 made.  This coin shows all original details, although a bit hard to see due to the toning.  It is made of 90% silver like other halves of those times.  At recent silver bullion values this half contains about of silver -- but the historical value of this small-mintage, 73-year-old coin makes it worth much more. Only 700,000 of these were struck!
Although it has toned areas on both sides, I would guess it meets the criteria for Extremelyl Fine, with minimal circulation.  But I'm not a professional grader, so please judge the condition of the coin yourself from the provided scans. Note there are some yellow spots on the reverse, not sure what caused them.
