****Shipping to Contiguous USA ONLY!****Dayak Rhinoceros Hornbill Bird Ceremonial Bowl with Carved Dragon Dog "Aso" Lid, Ironwood, HUGE 31" Long, Borneo Island.  This Pacific Islands offering bowl is in good condition with a chip out of one of the legs on the bottom, shown in the last photo.  This is a very large & heavy carving, measuring 31" long, 10" at its widest & 10 1/2" high. It weighs 10.3 POUNDS.  Stunningly carved from ironwood, this large Borneo ceremonial lidded bowl is a work of tribal art.  The body is a large Rhinoceros Hornbill bird with an intricately carved tail & head.  It's body makes up a 14" x 10" oval bowl. The Rhinoceros Hornbill is important to the Dayak people as they believe that the birds welcome the gods of augural birds to feasts & celebrations of humankind.  The carved lid is notched to fit around the Hornbills' neck.  It has a raised handle that is carved into the guardian dragon dog "Aso" with a notched tail.  There's more carving around the dragon.  Aso is a prominent & widespread theme in the art of Borneo.  It is a mythical animal that combines attributes of a dog and dragon into a single creature. The animal signifies protection and the use of the image is traditionally restricted to the upper class.
